At Heanor Gate Science College we firmly believe that our school ethos of ‘ASPIRE, LEARN, ACHIEVE’ provides all students with a platform to go on and achieve their full potential in life. Social mobility is a key priority for us as a school and we want our students to be equipped with the best possible outcomes, skills and information to access all available opportunities, both locally, nationally and internationally.

All of our students have the right to access free and impartial Careers Information, Education and Guidance, as well as the opportunity to gain experience of the world of work. This entitlement is delivered through discreet Careers sessions as part of the school's Preparation for Life curriculum, starting in Year 7. The Careers Information, Education and Guidance we provide for our students is further enhanced by our support staff and dedicated Careers advice personnel who undertake individual guidance interviews with them. Students in Year 10 and in Year 12 also undertake a week’s work placement, which helps to shape future decisions on their transition between phases and also their future career pathways.
