There is also a varied extra-curricular programme across all three strands, including an annual school show and variety of concerts.

Lesson and extracurricular activities are taught so that students:

  • Have fun and experience success in sport & PA
  • Have the opportunity to participate at their own level of development
  • Secure and build on a range of skills
  • Develop good attitudes
  • Build confidence
  • Experience positive competition
  • Learn in a safe environment
  • Have a foundation for lifelong physical activity

P.E is taught as a basis for lifelong learning, where the students have access to a wide range of activities in the belief that if taught well and the students are allowed to succeed, then they will continue to have a physically active lifestyle. A high quality physical education curriculum inspires students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. At HGSC, we provide opportunities for students to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as teamwork, fairness and respect. Most recently, our students have gone on to study sports science, medicine and physiotherapy at university and we have a large number of ex-students working as physiotherapists, PE teachers and sports coaches in the local area.

Performing Arts subjects aim to instil a sense of self-confidence and belief in our students. Through developing practical skills over a prolonged period, students will have the ability to adapt and grow their creative mind-set for the rest of their lives. Students will be able to transfer their experiences to all walks of life, enabling them to channel their confidence into whichever career path they choose. Previous HGSC performing arts students have gone on to further their studies at specialist institutions and have then become international touring performers. Other career progressions within the ever-growing performing arts industry include school teachers, specialist tutors, arts therapists, arts administrators, producers, composers, arts marketing and events co-ordinators.
